A Christmas Carol
Jim Carrey heads up this all-star cast for a modernised stop-motion version of the famous Charles Dickens story. The seasoned American actor puts in a fantastic performance as Ebenezer Scrooge, the bitter and miserable old man who treats Christmas and all those who embrace it with sheer contempt.
On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by a ghostly apparition of his former business partner Jacob Marley, who died seven years previously and is now clad in chains forged from his own greedy life. He warns Scrooge to change his ways and repent lest he suffer the same fate after death. Marley foretells that Scrooge will be haunted by three spirits who will help guide him.
The spirits show Scrooge his life of greed from the past, present, and future and how his actions make many people miserable. On Christmas morning, Scrooge wakes up a changed man and vows to immediately make atonements for his sins, by making donations to the poor and embodying the spirit of Christmas from then on.
This stop-motion version of the classic fantasy tale is fantastically conceived and beautifully crafted. This is the third instalment of the story to come from Disney, following Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983) and The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992).
