An Education

An Education

Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is an extremely bright teenage girl on the cusp of her 17th birthday. She is pretty, has loving parents, and is attending a prep school in order to become a student at Oxford University.

One rainy day, Jenny is offered a lift home by an attractive and charming older man called David (Peter Sarsgaard) with whom she begins a whirlwind romance. David has an exciting and interesting lifestyle, dining in expensive restaurants and shopping for clothes in Paris. Very soon, Jenny is head over heels for the smooth-talking David and hooked on a standard of living she previously wouldn’t have thought possible. The impressionable girl soon finds herself wanting to move to Paris to live a life of leisure instead of pursuing her university dream in England. However the sensation rapidly wears off and Jenny transforms from bright-eyed schoolgirl, to sophisticated young lady to someone she no longer recognises.

An Education won the Audience Choice award and the Cinematography award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and features a fantastic soundtrack and score, composed and compiled by Paul Englishby on Decca Records.
